This week has had some hard writing days keeping up my one-chapter-per-day goal.
Homer is setting up a one-man pizzaria. He is able to purchase two essential used items at auction for almost nothing. However, I can’t just write, “Homer picked up the Hobart and plugged it in.”
The mixer weighs nine-hundred pounds! You have to find a means of transporting your auction winnings, get there, load everything, secure it, bring it home, and move it into place. You will need a forklift, chains, straps, chocks, and more. You need a heavy trailer and a heavy duty picke up (at least). How do you unload it? You might need new electrical where it’s going.
I had to learn all these things in order for the passages to be both concrete and realistic. At the same time, the passages cannot be a how-to documentary. It has to be human. It has to make the reader feel something and learn something important.
